How screechowls.com uses information provided by you:
This site does not collect personally identifying information about you except when you specifically and knowingly provide it. The site uses an opt-in submission form requesting specific information.

A user's personally identifying information will not be sold or rented to any other party. To enable users to receive automatic notification of updates to some areas of screechowls.com, a user's personally identifying information may be shared with a third party agent who provides this service. Any such information will only be used to facilitate automatic updates.

Users can opt out of such use by e-mailing the following information to the screechowls.com at webmaster@mcclelland.com.

1) The subject line should include the words: REMOVE from screechowls.com
2) The body of the message should include: your e-mail address (please be sure to provide us with the e-mail address that you used when you signed up) and a description of the area where you signed up

Screechowls.com users should be aware that if they voluntarily disclose personal information (e.g., user name, e-mail address etc.) on bulletin boards or in chat areas, that information can be collected and used by others and may result in unsolicited messages from other posters or parties. As well, personal information provided by users on other web sites, including those reached from links on screechowls.com, can also be collected and used by others and may result in unsolicited messages from other posters or parties. McClelland & Stewart Ltd. is not responsible for personally identifying information provided to these third-party vendors.

While your personally identifying information is protected as outlined above, we sometimes aggregate data to remove personal identifiers, which we provide to our advertisers for statistical purposes. For example, we might report to advertisers that a certain percentage of users are between the ages of 35 and 45. In addition, McClelland & Stewart Ltd. may use non-personally identifying information for marketing analysis purposes.

Cookies:
screechowls.com may place a "cookie" in the browser file of a screechowls.com user's computer. The cookie itself does not contain or collect any personally identifying information although it will enable screechowls.com to relate a user's use of screechowls.com to information that the user has specifically and knowingly provided to screechowls.com. From time to time, screechowls.com hosts advertiser banners. If you link to our advertisers, you may also occasionally get cookies from them. screechowls.com does not control these cookies and these cookies are not subject to this policy. The use of advertising cookies sent by third-party servers is common on the Internet. Most browsers are initially set to accept cookies. If you prefer, you can set your browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are being sent. However, it is possible that some portions of screechowls.com will not function properly if you do so.

Children:
This privacy policy covers all data collected and used by screechowls.com. In addition, there are areas of the site in which children under 13 can provide us with information relating to e-mail address, mailing address, name, gender, and age. This information is collected strictly for the purpose of: on-line contests and activities; for alerting children, at their request, about upcoming books; asking questions and leaving comments in "Talk to the Author."

Questions and comments along with the author's answers are posted using only the child's first name and in some cases, the last name initial. A child's age and city, province, state, or country may be posted for Web site submissions, such as the jersey artwork gallery. Children asking questions or leaving comments in "Talk to the Author" may request that questions or comments be removed from the "Public Guestbook" or from "Roy's Letter of the Week" by emailing the following information to webmaster@mcclelland.com.

3) Identify what item you wish removed from the Web site. Please provide the page URL for reference.

Please note that requests for removal of information will take effect within a week of the request having been received, and that information about a child may remain in back-up storage for some period of time after a request for deletion. This may be the case even though no information about the child remains in our active user databases.

Children may also request to no longer be notified of upcoming books by emailing the following information to webmaster@mcclelland.com.

1) The subject line should include the word: screechowls.com DO NOT NOTIFY
